How to book a driving test in Ireland

MyRoadSafety, the 6-month rule, insurance on the day, and when to book a pretest for Killester.

Check you are eligible

Before the RSA will give you a date you usually need:

  • A current category B learner permit
  • All EDT sessions recorded (12, or 6 if you qualify for reduced EDT)
  • To have held your first learner permit for at least six months

Check your hours on MyEDT before you pay the test fee. If a session is missing, talk to whoever took it, or to us if it was us.

Book on MyRoadSafety

The official site is myroadsafety.rsa.ie. Pick your centre. Around here people usually pick Killester. Waiting times move, so book when you're nearly ready, not the week you start EDT.

We can't book the official test for you. Once you've a date, WhatsApp us the day and time and we'll sort prep.

Book a pretest and a car

A one-hour pretest with Paul is €60. If you need our car on the day, the €180 pretest + car hire covers that. You practise and sit the test in the same car.

You have to show valid insurance for the car you sit the test in. Using the school car means you're not scrambling with a parent's policy that morning.

The week of the test

Sleep. Know the way to 306 Howth Road. Don't try a brand new manoeuvre the night before. If you want one more hour on Collins Avenue or the coast road, say so and we'll fit it if we can.
